NEWBORN SESSION PREP GUIDE
STUDIO
Newborn photo session takes place in my home studio in Glenshire:
10503 Royal Crest, Truckee, CA 96161 starting at 10:00-10:30am.
Take your time getting ready and text me when you on your way.
I recommend bringing young siblings into the studio at the beginning of the session for about 30 minutes only.
Have another parent or caretaker come in a separate car and take them home after we get family and siblings' portraits done.
GET READY:
For the newborn:
Bring a pacifier (if the baby uses one), extra diapers, extra supplies for feedings (if you are not breastfeeding).
Nothing is the best wardrobe for a newborn. No outfit fits a newborn well and they often look swallowed in clothes.
I will have some simple gender-neutral props ready for you. Feel free to bring anything you've gotten for your baby as a present or a family heirloom.
For Mom:
Bring solid white AND solid dark top and/or dress + extra clothing to change into after the session.
A bit of makeup and naturally styled hair are best.
Be sure your nails are picture-ready as your hands will be holding a baby in many images.
For Dad:
Bring one solid white AND solid dark shirt or t-shirt + extra clothing (just in case).
A tight-fitting v-neck t-shirt with a pair of jeans is the best.
Be freshly shaved with a new razor, shaving cream, and moisturizing after-shave lotion to avoid bumps and redness.
Trim your beard, sideburns, mustache, or goatee. Look especially for wiry stray hairs.
Make sure your nails are clean and trimmed as your hands are holding the baby.
For Siblings:
Please come with clean nails, clean hair, clean feet, brushed teeth, and a pack of wipes for any eye boogers and snotty noses. If your child is still of napping age, make sure their nap time does not coincide with the shoot.
It is perfectly okay to bring bribes: some cereal, snacks, or candies that won’t stain their teeth. Avoid colorful drinks or lollipops within 24 hours of your shoot. Do not let them eat or drink anything that will stain their cheeks, mouths, or teeth.
Sister(s): Wear a snug-fitting tank in a neutral color or a sleeveless dress. The girl’s hair should be natural and free of bows, headbands, etc., and just like Mom, no nail polish.
Brother(s): A snug pair of jeans and a white t-shirt or shirtless are great.
THE MORNING OF THE PHOTO SESSION:
To ensure the best possible newborn session, follow the steps below as close as you can:
1. A couple of hours before your session give your newborn baby a bath. If you have not given her a full bath yet, give her a sponge bath.
2. Follow up with some massage and hypoallergenic lotion time. Take your time. This will ensure your baby's skin is nice and soft for the session and your newborn has gotten some active awake time.
3. Dress them lightly into something that I can easily peel off of them without waking them up.
Remove any clothing that can leave creases or marks on their bodies. Take off socks, loosen up diapers.
Avoid any clothes that have to go over their head to be removed.
4. Half an hour before leaving your home, give your newborn a full feed.
5. Put them in the car seat and head over to my studio. Once you get here, leave them in the car seat and bring them inside the studio.
